The R&D Shop consists of 18,000 square feet inside and outside the machine shop. The MPL R&D Shop also has special facilities for conducting equipment pressure tests, circuit board fabrication, plastic potting and it maintains an environmental test chamber.

Our inside Machine Shop has a wide variety of machines from small precision machines to large shipyard type machinery. We also have 3D programming capabilities for mill and lathe utilizing Mastercam 7.2. Please see below for a complete list of our special capabilities at the MPL Shop.

MILLING MACHINES

• 5 Bridgeport style mills with a two axis Proto Trak CNC controller.
• Ajax Horizontal / Vertical Mill 18" X 78" table
• Machinist 3 Axis CNC Mill
• Lucas Model 42B-60 Boring Mill with a 40" X 86" table
• HASS VF-5 three axis CNC milling machine. Table travel 25" x 50" x 26"
• HASS VF-3 three axis CNC milling machine. Table travel 20" x 40" x 25"

LATHES

• Hardinge tool room lathe to 17" Clausing lathe
• LeBlond 8" Hollow Spindle Lathe
• LeBlond Hollow Spindle lathe with a 12" hole thru the headstock. The bed is a crank back style which will turn a 5' diameter piece 5' long or a 2' diameter piece 14' long over the carriage.
• Bullard Vertical Turret Lathe with a 50" table.
• We also have a full compliment of normally used lathes of different sizes.
• We have two 17" Proto Trak CNC lathes which enables our shop to complete your large or small quantity parts faster, reducing project time and costs.
  

DRILL PRESSES

We have a full compliment of all the normal types plus one radial arm style with a 36" throat capacity

SURFACE GRINDER

DoAll surface grinder 8" by 24" table.

SAWS

A full range of all styles of contour and cut off type machines.

OUTSIDE SHOP The outside shop has the capabilities to weld all normal materials (steel,stainless steel, aluminum,titamium etc.) by MIG,TIG or ARC welding. The shop has a 7-1/2 ton bridge crane which spans entire shop area. Forklifts 4,000, 6,000 and 15,000 lbs. size. The shop also operates a 24' flatbed truck with a knuckle boom crane mounted on it that has a 35' reach. The Pressure Test Facility will test a piece 8" in diameter and 8' long to a pressure of 10,000 psi. It also has other items listed below.
